Dr. J.J. Jansen

Radboud University

Associate professor - Analytical Chemistry & Chemometrics

Jansen has spent his entire career in the development of Artificial Intelligence specifically for predictions in chemical systems. In his PhD he developed ASCA, which has become is a standard technique in chemical data sciences (chemometrics). Developing new methodology for challenging chemical systems has been the focus of his career, working in chemical ecology, medical metabolomics, environmental monitoring and process control. Sustainability and Circularity has become the red thread of his research. He consistently shows the value of Analytical Data for a greener tomorrow, but that co-creation and dialogues with process stakeholders are essential to use it for actual process improvement.

Artificial Intelligence, the link between Analytical Measurement and Operational Resilience

Artificial (and not-so-Artificial) Intelligence is essential in creating optimal value from Analytical Data. Such data contains essential information on materials composition. Every platform (from fast and noisy to standardized laboratory measurements) may thereby contribute value to chemical process improvement. Analytical, materials and process knowledge are invaluable for revealing such information, but is often incomplete, unreliable or outdated. Data-driven Artificial Intelligence therefore always is a valuable complement. The Prediction, that is at the core of Artificial Intelligence, must however be translated into Decision power and Actionability. This involves all stakeholders around the process, which requires data excellence, knowledge co-creation and a broad view on value creation.

Section title

Radboud University - In Dei Nomine Feliciter

Our university wants to contribute to a free and healthy world with equal opportunities for all and to make a significant impact on a regional and an international level. The university’s staff members and students feel connected to each other, to society, and to the world around them. We focus our attention on taking care of each other and the world around us and we are committed to equal rights for social and cultural minorities. We want to make a difference and, to this end, we are guided by academic issues and social challenges.
